What a caption adds to your video
On TikTok the video does most of the work, but the caption helps too: it gives viewers context, tells the platform what the video is about through its words and hashtags, and invites people to comment. A question at the end is one of the simplest ways to start a conversation under your post.
Anatomy of a good caption
- A hook in the first line that makes people keep watching or read on.
- One or two sentences of context — the recipe name, the product, the key tip.
- A clear invitation: ask a question, ask for their version, or suggest saving the video.
- Three to five hashtags that match the video, placed at the end.
Keywords help people find you
Many people search TikTok the way they search Google. Using the words your audience would type — “easy sourdough for beginners”, not just “bread” — in your caption and on-screen text helps the right viewers find the video.
